Visits to the Clinic

Consultation

When you visit Family Chiropractic Sussex for the first time, you will be asked for some personal information. The doctor will then spend time taking thorough medical history, including questions about accidents, illnesses and family medical history. As well as health concerns that you would like us to help you with. All your details will be handled with the strictest confidentiality.

Examination

A thorough physical examination will concentrate on the joints, nerves and muscles of your body. Sometimes it may also be necessary to examine other areas, such as lungs, heart and abdomen.

Based on the findings the chiropractor will decide whether any additional investigations are necessary before treatment can begin. These may include X-rays. In some cases it may be necessary to contact other medical professionals but will only do with your permission.

Report of findings

After reviewing all the information the chiropractor will explain everything to you in detail in a report of findings (on a different visit to your examination): what is the cause of your symptoms, what can be done about it, approximately how long will it take, how much care is required and how much will the care costs. A treatment plan will be tailored to suit your specific needs.

In some cases dietary and lifestyle changes may be discussed and in most cases simple home exercises will be prescribed in order to maximize your wellness potential. You will also be advised on how to best avoid future problems, aid your recovery and enjoy health for life. This is also done within our free Health care classes

Treatment

Chiropractic adjustment is the application of precise force in accurate direction on a specific joint that is out of alignment ("subluxated") or not moving properly ("fixated"). Adjustments will help the bones to realign, joints and nerves to regain their normal function and relieve pain and irritation. Chiropractic treatment has been proven to be remarkably safe - much safer than taking pain killers!

There are hundreds of ways to adjust the spine. Over years of training your doctor has mastered a variety of techniques and will use the ones most suitable for your age, size and specific problem. After chiropractic treatment, many patients report increased general wellbeing - not just improvement with the problem that made them turn to chiropractic in the first place.
